The latest qualifier for the Angling Trust’s RiverFest competition took place on the River Trent at Holme Marsh on Saturday 25th July 2015.
This is a new stretch for the competition, and promised some bumper sport from the resident bream shoals… and they didn’t disappoint!
All the talk at the draw was the famous Weirfield pegs from 4 – 13. These pegs produced the top 4 in the match. Winner on the day was Sensas Mark One star and Trent regular Alistair Ogilvie, drawn at peg 5. Alistair plundered over 40 bream up to 5lb to run away with the match and book his place in the prestigious final with a weight of 162 lb5 oz all taken on groundbait feeder with worm and caster at 50 yards.
Second on the day with another impressive bream catch was Kamasan Starlets river expert Hadrian Whittle on peg 9. Hadrian had 26 bream and 1 chub for 95 lb.
In third place was former RiverFest Champion Andrew Murphy at peg 12 with 87 lb12 oz, this again included 26 bream of a slightly smaller sample.
In fourth place was another Trent regular Steve Edson from peg 6 with 61 lb 03 oz.
The two other zone winners booking their spot in the RiverFest final were Paul Golding at peg 59 with 24 lb 12 oz which included 4 barbel taken on maggot feeder fished to the far bank.
The final zone was won by popular RiverFest founder, Angling Trust Ambassador and river legend Dave Harrell on peg 81.
