The second round of the popular Barston Masters produced a tight finish and was notable also for a 20lb-plus carp being landed.
That fish, a common carp going 21lb, which is a huge fish to be caught in a match, saw Wayne Colloff take 59lb 14oz to the scales, but it wasn’t quite enough as winner Pete Bennett weighed in 69lb. Pete drew peg 124 and with the wind on his back he started on the Method feeder at 25 turns, taking a number of F1s. All the time he was feeding his pole line and he was able to add some carp later on in the match to take the win. Third spot went to ‘Snowy’ Ashington, who fished the Method at range for a 58-14-0 bag of skimmers and F1s.
