Fresh from being on presentation duty in the Bob Church Classic at Rutland Water (SEE VIDEO NEWS BULLETIN), the man himself has been enjoying some top class fly fishing of his own on the Leicestershire reservoir.
“Rutland Water, the country’s largest trout water at 3,300 acres is always the last to open. It was worth waiting for – in two trips I caught some lovely over wintered fish. Catching on a sinking fly line with various fly patterns, first I had seven rainbows for 19 lb 8 oz. My second trip was even better, eight for 26lb 8oz; keeping two.
“My boat partner Gareth Hancock had 13 keeping just four. The quality of fish at Rutland is outstanding they look like salmon they are so silver. The standard of the stock fish is so good you can barely tell them apart from the overwintered fish.”
