Birmingham’s Grant Albutt, who finished as runner up in the 2011 Maver Match This Grand Final, has made it through again this year in the Woodland View qualifier.

Faced with tough conditions of strong winds and driving rain, Grant drew on the venue’s High Pool, peg 11. The Garbolino backed rod fished 4mm pellet at 14 metres and corn at four metres before a late switch to corn over pellet down the edge to amass a weight of 97-1-0 and take the win. That was only around 5lb too good for second placed Jamie Hughes, who fished peg 3 on Dean’s Pool to take 92-4-0. Rob Brennan also had over 90lb in third.
