Lady angler Suzi Smith is showing a clean pair of heels to the men at Barston Lakes, having broken the venue record for the second time.
Regular angler Suzi weighed in a mighty 194lb in a recent Monday afternoon open match, upping her previous venue best by nearly 30lb, after drawing peg 30 at the Solihull water and fishing paste in the margins.
Venue owner Nigel Harrhy told Match Fishing magazine: “Suzi is extremely difficult to beat at Barston and it no surprise that she keeps breaking the venue record. How she fishes is a bit of a mystery to all who fish here. But it doesn’t matter if it is winter or summer, she does the damage!”
Barston was hit with the KHV virus a few years ago but has really bounced back to form.
“The lake is now fishing better than ever,” added Nigel. “The decision to stock with F1s was a great one and these fish now average 3lb, the skimmers are also big now and weights are being caught all over the lake. Thankfully our carp stocks are getting back to where I would like them. I take a lot of pride in breeding and rearing my own stock of carp. I was largely self taught, but my stock are becoming magnificent fish.”
The Monday afternoon open matches are run all summer with the draw at 12.30pm in the golf course clubhouse.
