Dick Clegg, OBE, International Coarse Angling Manager of the Angling Trust will be holding a Veterans International assessment day on the Aire and Calder Canal on Sunday 26th October this year. The intention is to select a squad of anglers to compete in Portugal on the river Sorria next June on a venue that has been used for both European and Youth Championships.
This will be the first of two assessment days with a second to be held sometime early next year on a venue in the Midlands. The first session will be for 5 hours with the emphasis on international rules to include both pole and waggler fishing. Bloodworm and joker will be allowed along with other baits, and each angler must provide their own within the following limits:
Groundbait 12 litres
Joker 500 mls
Bloodworm reasonable hook pack
Total of all other baits 2 litres
Only natural baits are allowed, boilies pellets etc. are barred.
The headquarters on the day will be at Delves Café / Fishery, Thorne, South Yorkshire DN 4BQ to meet at 8.30am.
Any interested veterans must nominate by sending in a brief summary of their last three years of competitive angling to Sandra Drew, Competitions & Events Manager, Strelley Hall, Nottingham. NG8 6PE or email; sandra.drew@anglingtrust.net by no later than Friday 17th October 2014. You must have individual membership of the Angling Trust and should be a minimum of 60 years of age before December 31st 2014.
Anyone selected will have to be prepared to pay their international costs to compete in Portugal and to help with any team fundraising.
