The largest stretch of inland water in the South East of England is being restocked and made accessible to more fishermen after new owners took the helm.

Bewl Water Country Park, on the Kent/East Sussex border, was acquired by Markerstudy Leisure at the start of January. 

The company, which invests heavily in leisure venues in the region, immediately began restocking the 770-acre reservoir and is to upgrade and reinstate the fishery to ensure stock levels remain high.

Refurbished changing rooms and showers will be included in the former sailing club headquarters, which will re-open in April after refurbishment. There are also plans to improve the current 56-strong fleet of three-man fishing boats as demand grows.

“Bewl is still open for business for anglers, even though we are in the middle of extensive refurbishment works at the Visitor Centre and the Boathouse,” said Andrew Daniells, Chief Operating Officer at Markerstudy Leisure.

“Long term, we will continue to build fish stocks and improve the onshore facilities for both bank and boat anglers.”

Day tickets are £28 for an eight fish ticket, with boat hire ranging from £18 for a half day for one angler, to £31 for a full day for two.

Annual season tickets are also available.
