Twenty eight teams contested Angling Trust’s top Stillwater event at the usually prolific Garbolino Lindholme Lakes, Epworth, Doncaster on Saturday 30th April 2016.
However, the wildly fluctuating weather in the days leading up to the Championship and on the day itself pretty well ensured that for many it would be a struggle. That said the top ten anglers all posted weights over 25 kilos and 18 kilos was the lowest section winning weight.
Good section points really had to be worked hard for with, sometimes, just one decent F1 making all the difference. Not surprisingly this produced as tight a finish as you could imagine in the team event with, literally, three points separating the top three teams.
Drennan Barnsley Blacks came out on top with 193 points recording one section first and two seconds. Runners up were Matrix Dynamite Trentmen who, although not having a section winner saw half of their team finishing in the top six in their respective sections. Drennan North West with one section winner and four others in the top seven took third place with 190 points. Fourth place went to Mosella Quaker with 177 points and completing a pretty successful day for Drennan sponsored teams Drennan Leicester were fifth with 176.
Individually it was Beeches Pool which dominated proceedings, Drennan Leicester’s Shaun Huggins with a great weight of 40 kilos 110 grammes from permanent peg 30 on Beeches Pool captured the top spot.
Second was Colin Mayor fishing at Beeches peg 5 for Drennan North West. Colin weighed 32 kilos 280 grams. Steve Holbrook of Nottingham A A took third with 29 kilos 920 from Beeches 1. Fourth was Peter Close of Mosella Quaker who weighed 29 kilos 780 grammes from Bonsai peg 49 just ahead of Drennan Leicester’s Bob Greenbury who had 28 kilos 600 grammes from Laurels 35. Just a few grammes short in sixth was Dean Smith of Lincoln with 28 kilos 280 grammes from Beeches 21.
The Angling Trust would like to thank Garbolino & Lindholme Lakes for their support of this event and providing the first place prize money of £2,500 to the winning team. This year also saw the 2nd place team being awarded a prize money cheque from the Angling Trust of £500. Appreciation and thanks to Neil and all the staff at Garbolino Lindholme Lakes for all their help and support on the day of the Championship.
