Report:
The Thursday Kobra Open at Dynamite Baits Makins, held on Lagoon Pool, was fished in a heavy snow storm, only three weighing in.

Dynamite Matchman Supplies backed Steve Keightley (peg 5) was the only angler who fished the pole in the adverse conditions. He was rewarded with a bream and 3 carp in a brief spell 2 hours from the end, all taking corn at 14m, which gave him a winning weight of 11 lb 10 oz.

Kobra Feeders backed John Adamson (peg 3) took second place with 2 carp on bomb and corn for 10 lb 8 oz, his first fish after 4 successive ‘blank’ matches, with Coventry angler Eddie Keene (peg 15) taking third place with 2 carp for 9 lb 10 oz on bomb and bread.

Report:
Although all lakes were iced over when anglers arrived for the Wednesday Kobra Open on Lake 4 at Dynamite Baits Makins, it proved easy to break and had completely gone by 11.30 am.

LEVAS angler Dave Kent (peg 12) landed the first carp at 11am, and after he lost 2 the shoal moved across the lake to peg 20, where Garbolino backed Ritchie Hull took 4 quite quickly on bomb and corn. In spite of regular ‘liners’, Ritchie only landed one more carp to win the match with 29 lb 14 oz.

Dave Kent finished with 3 fish for 18 lb 12 oz (all on bomb and corn), with Derek Hartshorne (Swan Baits) taking third place with 2 carp on bomb and corn and several roach on pole and caster.

It was of interest that all anglers on pegs 1 – 15 had ‘liners’ throughout, showing fish are moving around.

Report:
The top two in the Thursday Kobra Open, held on Lagoon (Phase 2) at Dynamite Baits Makins was the reverse of the previous day.

This time Hinckley’s Albert Bray (peg 16) took top place with a superb catch of 9 carp (from 3 to 10 lb), for 58 lb 8 oz. Albert started with a small feeder to no avail, and after 30 minutes, switching to straight lead baited with bread he landed 4 carp in quick succession. He was then had to wait until the final hour when the fish returned and he added 5 more.

Second placed Eddie Keene (Coventry) landed his two carp from peg 4 (both on straight lead) halfway through the match. One fell to double red maggot and the other banded pellet.

Although everyone tried for ‘silvers’ the only other person to catch was Gaz Wood (Browning Central) with 8 oz from peg 37 consisting of 3 skimmers.

Report:
The Wednesday Kobra Open, fished on Lake Five at Dynamite Baits Makins in a strong East wind and snow showers, proved bite-less for all except two anglers.

Last week’s winner, Eddie Keene (Coventry) found a couple of small carp in the early stages on straight lead baited with red maggot and worm from peg 5, and then switched to pole at 8m with the same bait to take several roach for his 8 lb 8 oz total.

The only other angler to catch was Hinckley’s Albert Bray, who caught a single roach 15 minutes from the end to weight 12 oz and take second place.

Long Eaton Victoria Angling Society’s Championship Match 16 was fished on Phase 2 of Dynamite Baits Makins over two lakes, Lizard and Lagoon. Anglers on Lagoon dominated results taking 5 of the top 6 places.
The match winner, on Lagoon peg 2, was Dave Mayo. Starting on pole, Dave caught a 4 lb bream first ‘put in’ on caster, followed this with several roach, and after switching to bomb and corn at the half way point, hooked and landed a carp of 11 lb 8 oz to put his final total at 18 lb 8 oz.
In contrast, runner up John Adamson (Lagoon 36) was bite-less for the fist 90 minutes then started to catch the odd skimmer bream on pole and pellet after 2 hours. As the match progressed his catch rate increased, and he ended with 8 lb 12 oz of ‘skimmers’ and a carp of 8 lb 8 oz (also on pellet/pole an hour from the end) for 17 lb 4 oz.
Third placed Bob Dyer (Lagoon 10) caught 4 carp on bomb and corn for 13 lb 12 oz, just edging out Steve Wilcock whose 13 lb 8 oz roach catch from Lagoon peg 17 were all taken on waggler and caster. Malc Munn (Lizard 13) took fifth with a carp plus some small fish for 10 lb, Rob Henrick if sixth (Lagoon 14) with a roach catch of 8 lb 12 oz.
With two matches remaining (River Soar at Kegworth on 21 February and Blake Hall on 14 March) the Championship leader board is: Paul Richardson 208 points; Carl Henrick 202; Malc Munn 185; John Adamson 174; Brian Leafe 174; Dave Kent 170; Mick Lager 149; Steve Wilcock 136. With 20 points for a win and only 15 results of 18 to count the result remains open.

The Thursday Kobra Open on Lizard at Dynamite Baits Makins saw another win for venue expert Andy Findlay (Korum and Preston Innovations). Although only two anglers caught carp, everyone fishing managed to weigh in over 2 lb, small roach showing in all areas.

Drawing favoured peg 12, Andy Findlay fished straight bomb and with hair rigged corn at 16m to catch 6 carp and a tench for his 22 lb 6 oz total.

Jointly in runner up position with 6 lb 4 oz each was John Adamson (Kobra Feeders) and Ian Jones (PSR Angling), fishing pegs 10 and 30 respectively. John caught a carp of around 4 lb and small roach, all on pole and pellet, whilst Ian’s catch consisted solely of roach taken on double pinkie.

Gaz Woods (Browning Central) had all roach for his 5 lb for fourth place, Dave Kent (Long Eaton Victoria AS) including a 2 lb + perch in his 4 lb 4 oz for fifth, losing three other big perch during the match.

Report:
Anglers arriving for the Wednesday Kobra Open at Dynamite Baits Makins found ice had formed overnight on several lakes, and although Lake Four was clear it was ‘gin’ clear.

Dynamite Matchman Supplies backed Steve Keightley, fishing peg 9, had two bites on hair rigged corn (fished on straight lead) around 1pm. The first produced a bream of around 4 lb and the second a small skimmer, enough for his first win on the venue.

Runner up Shane Desmond (Dynamite Matchman Supplies) had one bite (corn on straight lead) and caught the only carp of the match weighing 3 lb 10 oz for second place.

Because Lakes 2 and 4 have failed to produce much since the ice melted, the KOBRA OPEN on Wednesday 3 February will be on Lake 5.

Ice breakers were at the ready again for the second round of the Lanes Bait Winter League.
The ice was a lot thicker on Lagoon than Lizard, which actually had ice-free patches on it.
But the top three places came off Lagoon, with K Wynn (Lanes Bait) taking top spot with 6lb 6oz of roach and perch taken on pole and pinkie off peg 17.

All 36 competitors turned up to this frozen venue when all other matches had been called off, given an extra hour to break ice up to five inches thick, then continue with a four-hour match and every angler caught fish.
Les Twaites won the match with 15lb 4oz of mainly perch off peg 2 on Lagoon. Second was Alan Dolby with 8lb 8oz off peg 32 Lagoon and third spot went to Ian Hughes with 8lb 6oz off peg 4 on Lagoon… The best weight off Lizard pool went to Ron Savage with 8lb 2oz off peg 35, which took fourth place.

In an attempt to avoid the strong wind and driving snow, anglers were pegged along the more sheltered bank of Lizard at Dynamite Baits Makins on the Thursday Kobra Open, and for most, excepting a few small ‘silvers’, it proved a waiting game.

Swan Baits backed Derek Hartshorne (peg 29) continued his superb run at Dynamite Baits Makins with another win, clinched when he landed a 10 lb carp on the final whistle. This, alongside several roach and perch taken on waggler and caster in the first 4 hours, plus two smaller carp plus the ‘lump’ taken on bomb and corn in the final hour, lifted his weight to 18 lb 8 oz.

Second placed Andy Findlay (Korum / Preston Innovations) on peg 31 stuck it out on corn, and landed 4 carp in the last 30 minutes for his 16 lb 10 oz.

The next two Thursday Kobra Opens will be on Lagoon on 24th December, and then on Lizard on 31st December.

Lake 4 at Dynamite Baits Makins fished hard in the Wednesday KOBRA Open, and there were several dry nets.

Dynamite Matchman Supplies’ angler Jimmy Haley was the only angler on the lake that bites throughout the day. Fishing peg 10, Jimmy caught on corn presented on straight bomb, and from time to time used a ‘pellet cone’ to keep fish coming to end with several carp, a bream and a tench for 48 lb 2 oz.

In contrast, Duncan Warrall (Attleborough Angling) on peg 13 persevered with straight corn and, alfter only having the odd ‘line bite’ throughout the day was rewarded by 5 good carp in the last 45 minutes for his second placed 35 lb 6 oz.

Derek Hartshorne (Swan Baits) on peg 7 took third with 22 lb 2 oz (a bream and 4 carp) fishing hair rigged pellet over loose pellet feed.

The Thursday KOBRA Affordable Open on Dynamite Baits Makins ‘Lizard’ produced some excellent sport in spite of the strong NE wind and heavy rain.

Once again venue expert Andy Findlay put on s superb performance fishing straight lead and corn from peg 29, taking small carp (2 to 4 lb size range) throughout the match for a winning 48 lb 6 oz.

In form John Ricketts on peg 7 (Swann Baits Mosella) pushed the winner very close, and although he included a carp of 16 lb in his 47 lb 2 oz total (taken on corn fished along the margin on pole and bomb and corn, three lost fish cost him the match.

Third place fell to Eddie Keene (Coventry) with a 39 lb 10 oz feeder caught catch from peg 13, with Terry Cockburn (peg 12) ending with a similarly caught 36 lb 6 oz for fourth place.

On Lake 4 at Dynamite Baits Makins in the Wednesday KOBRA Affordable Open, all significant catches came from the top end after a night of heavy rain.

Local angler Mark Betteridge (Attleborough Angling) came out top from peg 12 with a 12 fish catch, 62 lb 6 oz of carp, edging out Ian Maltby (Lanes Baits) who landed 11 fish from directly opposite (peg 20) for 50 lb 14 oz. Both fished the ‘in method’ of pellet presented on straight lead.

John Varley (Higham Lane Fishery) took third place with 28 lb 4 oz.

In spite of continuing strong winds, Lagoon at Dynamite Baits Makins fished brilliantly for the Thursday KOBRA Affordable Open, with more than ¾ of the field weighing in over 10 lb.

Top weight fell to Kobra Feeders backed John Adamson with 9 carp, a barbel, a tench and some skimmers on method feeder (baited with pellet, corn and meat) with 54 lb 2 oz from peg 3.

Fishing long pole and corn from peg 23, Korum ace Andy Findlay put together a superb 43 lb 10 oz of carp, roach and skimmers, pushing Attleborough Angling’s Andy Inglesant (peg 2)with 39 lb 10 oz (including 25 lb of ‘silvers’) into third place.

Next week’s Thursday KOBRA Affordable Open (26 November) will be on Crater and Reptile (Phase 2). 9.15/9.30am draw.

Report:
In heavy rain and a westerly gale, to place all in shelter only the Lake 2 A bank and Lake 4 top bank were pegged for the Wednesday Kobra Affordable Open at Dynamite Baits Makins. Although anglers had some comfort the fish vacated these areas which made for a dour match, only two on Lake 2 weighing in.

Higham Lane Fishery boss John Varley took top weight with three carp, all landed in the first hour from Lake 2 peg A20, for an even 20 lb. Peg A20 had now won 19 Wednesday opens in four years and has overtaken peg A8 as the most successful peg.

Northampton’s Mark Griffiths followed up on his win last week to top Lake 4 with 19 lb 10 oz from peg 21, followed by Eddie Keene (Coventry) with 16 lb 8 oz from peg 24.

Andy Findlay’s two bream catch on Lake 2 (peg A15) took the Lake 2 pool (by default).

Report:
The Thursday Kobra Affordable Open, fished on Snake and Crater at Dynamite Baits Makins, proved a dour match in SE wind and heavy rain.

Gedling Tackle’s Kev Walters, fishing Crater peg 10 with corn along the margins, landed 8 good carp to win with 40 lb.

This edged out Andy Findlay (Korum & Preston Innovations), whose 12 carp from Snake peg 4 on corn fished to the island and ‘down the track’ weighed 37 lb 8 oz. The winner’s brother Daz Walters filled third place with 31 lb 8 oz from Crater peg 13.

Next Thursday’s match (19 November) will be on Lagoon (Phase 2), draw 9.15-9.30 am.

The Thursday KOBRA Affordable Open at Dynamite Baits Makins was held on ‘Lizard’ in cold, wet and windy conditions.

Local angler Mick Martin (Attleborough Angling) took top honours from peg 12 with 51 lb (14 carp) taken on method feeder. In contrast John Ricketts (Swann Baits Mosella) landed only 6 carp from peg 7 on margin fished corn for 47 lb 4 oz, pushing Korum ace Andy Findlay into third place, 41 lb 14 oz (8 carp) from peg 33 on long pole baited with corn and pellet.

The cold W wind and rain appeared to reverse last weeks Wednesday KOBRA Affordable Open results at Dynamite Baits Makins, as Lake Two provided the top 4 and best weight on Lake Four coming fifth.

Korum ace Andy Findlay recorded another win with 86 lb 14 oz from peg B15, taking 14 carp on pellet feeder in the final two hours. The next four weights all fell to straight bomb and pellet, topped by Gedling Tackle pair Baz Smithson, with 82 lb 10 oz from peg A8, closely followed by Daz Walters with 81 lb 6 oz from A14.

Lakes Two and Four at Dynamite Baits Makins again produced excellent sport for the Wednesday KOBRA Affordable Open, with the 25 competitors averaging over 45 lb per angler.

Dynamite Matchman Supplies backed Phil Jarram caught carp steadily throughout, at first on bomb and then on pole to finish with 98 lb 14 oz for top place from Lake 4 peg 11.

In contrast, runner up Andy Williams (Dynamite Makins) on Lake 2 peg A20 caught one fish early on method feeder, and only switching to pole and pellet presented down the margins did he find carp for his 89 lb 10 oz catch.

Third and fourth fished side by side on pegs 5 and 4 on Lake 4, Andy Boffin (Dynamite Makins) edging it with 84 lb 10 oz against Dave Rossi (Kobra Feeders) who had a 10 fish catch weighing 82 lb 12 oz.

Runner up Suzy Smith (Kobra Feeders) caught 29 lb 6 oz from Thames peg 16 on method feeder for second place, with Coventry’s Eddie Keene (Inner Avon 6) taking third place with 26 lb 8 oz, some falling to pole and some to feeder.

Sport was hard for most competitors during the Thursday KOBRA Affordable Open on Snake and Reptile at Dynamite Baits Makins, although once again every one caught over 20 lb.

Korum ace Andy Findlay notched up yet another Makins win with 85 lb 4 oz. Drawing fancied peg Snake 7, Andy fished long pole and corn for his all carp catch.

In contrast, on Reptile 17, Dynamite Matchman Supplies backed Mark Perkins caught on pellet, although he also used long pole fished in open water. John Adamson (Kobra Feeders) took third place from Reptile 4 with 53 lb 8 oz on method feeder.

In spite of some tight pegging, Lake 2 at Dynamite Baits Makins fished well all round the lake (except the high numbers on B bank) for the Wednesday Kobra Affordable Open.

Best Baits Packington ace Danny Lewis continued his good run by again maximising the potential on peg A8 with another clear win. Danny fished banded pellet presented on straight bomb for 127 lb 8 oz.

Second placed Mark Perkins (Dynamite Matchman Supplies) fished similarly on the opposite side of the lake for his 88 lb from peg B15, while Mallory’s Paul Gardiner switched between feeder and bomb for his 75 lb 6 oz third placed catch from peg A14.

Draw times will remain 9.15 to 9.30am until next spring.

A cold North-east wind dampened sport on Lake 2 for the Wednesday Kobra Affordable Open at Dynamite Baits Makins, but once again fish were caught all round the lake and produced a close result.

Winning for the first time was local angler Terry Phillips (Attleborough Sports) with 91 lb 14 oz. Fishing peg A2, Terry started on the method feeder, but after taking two carp sport died. He switched to straight bomb and pellet and caught carp steadily throughout the second half of the match.

Only 4 oz split the next two, with Geoff Ringer (Ringer Baits) taking second from peg A8 with 79 lb 12 oz, from Warwick Porto ace Barry Duggan, who’s 79 lb 8 oz came from peg B1. Geoff landed all his fish on long pole baited with pellet and corn, Barry catching his on method feeder and straight lead.

Shaun Claire (Dynamite Matchman Supplies) took fourth sport with a method feeder caught 77 lb 4 oz from peg B16.

As plant was operating on the scheduled Phase 2 lakes at Dynamite Baits Makins the Thursday Kobra Affordable was moved to Phase 3, Avon pool, which produced fish in all areas.

Andy Findlay (Korum) failed to make it two wins in successive days when John Smalley (Attleborough Angling) put 66 lb 8 oz of carp on the scales to the ‘Fins’ 63 lb 6 oz. John, on peg 21, fished paste throughout. He caught close to the island at first and later from the margins. In contrast, Andy (peg 7) fished meat and corn for his all carp catch.

Once again fish were spread all around Dynamite Baits Makins Lake 2 for the Wednesday Kobra Affordable Open, although leading weights failed to show on the downwind pegs as expected.

Andy Findlay (Korum & Preston Innovations) on B17 took top spot with 75 lb 6 oz of carp on pellet feeder, with Gedling Tackle’s Baz Smithson taking second with a method feeder caught 68 lb 10 oz on the opposite bank on peg A 13.

Tying for third was Mallory’s Jarrad Smith (A12) and Warwick Porto’s Barry Duggan (B2) each with 63 lb 6 oz.

From now on the draw for Wednesday match will be 9.30am, fishing from 10.30am.

The Thursday Kobra Affordable Open was fished on Derwent on Phase 3 of Dynamite Baits Makins, and in spite of the cold wind everyone around the lake caught carp.

Top weight was taken by Kobra Feeders angler John Adamson. Fishing peg 16 at the far end of the lake, John landed 17 carp on method feeder fished tight to the island for 67 lb 10 oz.

Bob Rimmington (Rivendell), on peg 30 at the other end of the lake alternated meat and pellet for his 63 lb 14 oz catch, just edging out Dynamite Matchman Supplies ace Mark Perkins who had 62 lb 12 oz from peg 9.

Next Thursday’s Open match (1 October 2009) is on Phase 2 (Crater and Reptile), with the draw at 9.30 am.

Dynamite Baits backed Shane Desmond, peg A4, alternated between straight bomb and pellet waggler fished close to the small island to catch carp throughout the match for his 127 lb 14 oz winning total.

Had second placed Shaun Claire not lost several carp through a hole in one of his keep nets on peg A14, he may have taken first place, instead of which his 110 lb 2 oz just pushed Kobra Feeders backed angler John Adamson’s 109 lb 10 oz from peg B17 into third spot.

At the Thursday Kobra Affordable Open at Dynamite Baits Makins, gale force winds made fishing difficult but weights remained good.

Top weight fell to Long Eaton Victoria stalwart Dave Kent. Fishing peg 8 on inner Avon, Dave started catching bream and small carp on corn presented on long pole fished into open water, and in the latter stages landed a string of bigger carp on luncheon meat fished in the margins to total 95 lb 12 oz.

Whitley AC angler Alan Walton caught his 78 lb of carp on paste fished to the island and later, the margins.

Venue expert Andy Findlay (Korum), on peg A15 cast his pellet feeder 60 yards with unerring accuracy to catch carp steadily throughout to record 162 lb and another win.

Second placed Eddie Keene (Coventry) used method feeder fished to the island at first and then in the margins for his 151 lb from peg B17, with Jarrad Smith (Mallory) fishing method feeder placed towards the island on peg B13 for a mixed carp and bream catch of 144 lb 8 oz for third place.

Top weight fell to Browning Central’s Gaz Wood with 104 lb 2 oz. Fishing Snake peg 2 only after complaining that the peg was a ‘no hoper’ and should have been left out, Gaz caught good carp on paste fished towards the island and from the margins for a clear win.

In spite of a very strong and gusting wind and rain throughout, Lake 2 at Dynamite Baits Makins once again fished superbly well for the Wednesday Kobra Affordable Open with weights averaging over 80 lb per angler.

Top weight fell to Syston Casters angler Pete Eden with an excellent 187 lb 12 oz of mainly carp plus some skimmers. Pete caught on corn fished to the island at first, then later in the margins against the bush.

Second placed John Adamson (Kobra Feeders) had only 16 carp in his 130 lb haul, taken on meat, towards the island at first and later from the margins on peg B17. Danny Lewis (Best Baits) caught from the bowl and margins for his 116 lb12 oz from peg B6.

REPORT
Long Eaton Victoria Angling Society’s Championship Match 7, for the W CAMM Trophy, was held on Phase 2 at Dynamite Baits Makins over three Lakes, Crater, Reptile and Little Reptile. On a warm day the fishing was excellent, and, excepting the winner, produced a close result.
Fishing Crater 13, Brian Leafe quickly found where the fish favoured, and using sweet corn presented on pole along the margin he fully exploited the resident carp population to total 102 lb for a clear win.
Second weight (and top weight on Reptile) was 14 year old Jake Hemmings from peg 17. Jake fishing method feeder close to the island for 68 lb of carp pushed John Adamson (Crater 5) into third place. John’s 63 lb consisting of 21 carp were taken on long pole and paste early on and then method feeder in the latter stages.
Paul Richardson filled fourth slot with 62 lb 10 oz, edging out Malc Munn (Crater 15) who was fifth with 61 lb 8 oz.
Championship leader, Carl Henrick (Reptile 13) retained his overall lead by taking sixth place with 58 lb 8 oz.

In spite of being matched the previous day, Derwent on Phase 3 at Dynamite Baits Makins produced carp all round the lake on the Thursday Kobra Affordable Open.

Fishing peg 24, Preston Innovations backed Adam Wakelin fished meat tight to the island on long pole in the strong wind for a 28 carp catch (including a fully scaled common of 14 lb 8 oz) to total 103 lb 13 oz for a clear win.

In second on peg 28, John Adamson (Kobra Feeders) caught 15 carp on meat for 60 lb 2 oz, pushing Browning Central’s Gaz Wood (peg 4) into third place with his paste caught 51 lb 10 oz.

Next week’s Thursday match will be on Reptile & Snake (Phase 2).

Once again Lake Two at Dynamite Baits Makins produced an excellent match for the Wednesday Kobra Affordable Open, although the bulk of the catches came from the high numbers on both banks.

Long Eaton Victoria AS angler Carl Henrick (peg A20) alternated between method feeder and pellet waggler to catch steadily throughout the match for his winning weight of 159 lb 12 oz.

For second place, first time visitor Barry Duggan (Warwick Portabello) fishing peg A15 found pellet waggler the successful method for his 114 lb 14 oz catch, with Tubertini angler Mike McMillan (peg B20) in third with 112 lb 12 oz of big carp taken on paste fished in the margin.

Next Wednesday Kobra Affordable Open will be on 26th August on Lake 2 (no match on 19 August).

Report:
In spite of heavy rain throughout the latter half of the match, Crater and Reptile at Dynamite Baits Makins produced an average weight per angler of 56 lb 12 oz in the Thursday Kobra Affordable Open.

In spite of the conditions, Preston Innovations backed Adam Wakelin produced another superb performance. Fishing Reptile peg 17with long pole and baiting with pellet, Adam caught carp throughout the match to total 127 lb 10 oz.

On the opposite side of the lake on peg 10, John Adamson (Kobra Feeders) fished a tiny method feeder close to the island and in the margins for 28 carp and 4 bream totalling 114 lb 8 oz for second spot. Rugby’s Phil Porter took overall third and top on Crater from peg 1 with his 101 lb 12 oz mainly carp weight from the margins on pole, alternating corn and meat baits, with Alan Walton (Coventry) next with 83 lb from Crater 8.

Next Kobra Thursday match will be on 20 August on Derwent (Phase 3) Dynamite Baits Makins.

Report:
The cold water from heavy rain with thunder storms put fish off in Derwent Pool on Phase 3 of Dynamite Makins in the Thursday Kobra Affordable Open. Most catches came from the deep water ‘down the track’.

Top weight of 60 lb 12 oz fell to Long Eaton Victoria AS’s Dave Kent from peg 23, all fish taking meat. John Adamson (Kobra Feeders) took his second placed 47 lb 14 oz of 14 carp on paste from peg 27, with Lee Farmer (Browning Central) catching his mixed bag of carp, bream, roach, gudgeon and a golden tench for third place with 41 lb 4 oz on pellet.

The Thursday Kobra Open on 6 August is on Crater and Reptile.

Report:
Although the heavy rain moves the fish into the deep water for the Wednesday Kobra Affordable Open on Lake Two at Dynamite Baits Makins, some excellent weights were recorded.

Continuing his superb run on the venue, Paul Yates (Drennan), fishing peg B6, caught throughout the match to record a superb weight of 211 lb. Paul started on straight bomb and pellet, and in the latter stages fished pole and meat in the margins, catching 37 carp and a few bream. This was the first Wednesday win from peg B6, making it the 36th different peg on Lake 2 to win a Kobra Wednesday match.

Andrew Williams (Dynamite Makins) took second on method feeder from peg B20, including an 18 lb mirror carp in his catch. Fox Match Trentman Jason Labosquet was third with a pole/meat caught 114 lb 12 oz from peg A9, just edging out Coventry’s Edie Keene who had 114 lb 10 oz from peg A12 on the feeder.

Next Wednesday Kobra Affordable on Lake 2 will be on 12 August.

Dynamite Baits Makins Tuesday evening Open on Snake (Phase 2), fished in torrential rain and thunderstorms, was dominated by ‘open water’ pegs. Max Higgott (Hinckley) landed good carp and bream from peg 19 fishing paste into open water, and on the opposite side of the lake on peg 5, Jamie Adcock (LEVAS) fished pellet up in the water for a carp catch of 60 lb 4 oz.

Match organiser Simon Harper (Dynamite Makins) took third spot with 54 lb 9 oz from peg 12.

In spite of the terrible weather reports and heavy rain before the match, anglers fishing the Wednesday Kobra Affordable Open only had the odd shower to contend with in a match that once again produced weights all round Lake 2 at Dynamite Makins, the top nine all weighing in over 90 lb.

Top weight fell to Dynamite Makins backed Andrew Williams with 153 lb 10 oz. Andew fished method feeder (pellet bait) from peg A8 to become the 17th winner from that peg since November 2005 on a Wednesday match. He caught throughout the match, admitting to losing several big fish he could not stop that surged ‘through the gap’.

Once again carp fed all round Lake 2 at Dynamite Baits Makins for the Kobra Wednesday Affordable Open, with both sides and both ends figuring in the top 5 places.

Doncaster based and Drennan backed Paul Yates fished a superb match from peg A12 to win. He started on method feeder, switched to pellet waggler and ended up on pole and corn down the margins to catch carp throughout the match to total 217 lb 14 oz. This is the first 200+ Wednesday winning weight this year.

In contrast, on peg B17 on the other side of the lake, Long Eaton angler John Adamson (Kobra Feeders) fished method feeder throughout for his 26 carp catch weighing 161 lb 14 oz for second place, the bulk of John’s fish coming in the latter part of the match.

Nuneaton Nomad Jim Innes (peg A9) took third place with 141 lb 2 oz. After a slow start on the pellet waggler, Jim switched to pellet presented on the bomb to catch steadily throughout the last 2 hours.

Birkenhead angler Darren Stanton (Fishermans Tackle) took fourth from peg B2 with 107 lb 10 oz taken ‘up in the water’ on pole and pellet, Dave Rossi (Kobra Feeders) fifth with 98 lb 4 oz from peg A20 taken on method feeder fished along the margins.

John Adamson (Kobra Feeders) had a comfortable win in the Thursday Kobra Affordable Open at Dynamite Baits Makins.

Drawn on Crater 11, John fished method feeder (maggot bait), and after a bream early on had to wait until the last two hours before fish moved in. He ended the match with 39 carp, 3 bream, a tench and a roach for 111 lb 2 oz. (Attached Photograph shows John with 55 lb of his fish)

Second and third placed anglers fished Crater, with Coventry’s Eddie Keene taking second with 54 lb 10 oz from Crater 5, mainly carp (plus roach and bream) taken on pole and pellet fished in open water. Dave Walker (Border Fishery) was third with 48 lb 4 oz of carp, barbel and bream from Crater 1.

Report:
Cold and wet weather made fish hard to come by for much of the match in the Wednesday Kobra Affordable Open at Dynamite Baits Makins Fishery, and it took a superb performance by Shimano/Guru/Dynamite ace Roly McIneaney to become a clear winner from peg B11.

Facing the wind and rain, after a couple of fish on the method feeder Roly switched to pellet waggler to catch carp and bream throughout the latter stages of the match to finish with 131 lb 2 oz to win.

On the opposite (A) bank, Kobra Feeders backed pair, Leicester’s Dave Rossi and Long Eaton’s John Adamson fought fish for fish on method feeder, Dave coming out on top with 98 lb 12 oz to John’s 97 lb 8 oz.
