Rutland WaterA mixed week at Rutland Water with the main basin providing on/off results. The current rod average for boat anglers is 4.56.
Earlier last week in the very hot weather there were lots of fish on the surface with a mixture of blobs, boobies, nymphs and dries accounting for fish. However, fish switched off this diet mid week. This was mainly due to the aerators being turned off all of last week and with the wind finally turning back up again from Wednesday onwards the majority of hot/warm was blown into the main basin. The few anglers who ventured up the arms found fish and one or two of these were feeding on this year’s huge pin fry shoals.
Bank anglers have found fish off both shorelines of the main basin, at Normanton and Sykes Lane. The current rod average for bank anglers is 2.08. Season ticket holder Bill Coppin, from Norfolk, caught some quality fish on dry fly. There were a number of Rainbows and Browns fry feeding.
Toff Crowther, from Oakham, fished the shallows of the arms and banked some quality fish last Thursday.

Tuesday Evening Boat LeagueWeek six of this popular league saw the return from injury of Richard Cooper. Richard won in convincing style with eight fish. He also won the free mid week boat for the biggest fish by the narrowest of margins from his good friend Keith Jones. Richard took a Rainbow of 2lb 2oz just ahead of Keith’s best fish which weighed 2lb 1 7/8 oz. Keith retains the current lead in the league just ahead of Hilary Tomlinson.A competition date for the diary is the Over 50’s boat match on 29 July (9am to 5pm).
Army ChampionshipsRutland Water recently hosted the Army Championships over two days.The best Rainbow was taken by Jim Wright and weighed 3lb 4oz. Jamie Thomas landed the best Brown at 3lb 13oz.Unit Team won by 7 Scots weighing in at 23lb 6oz; runners up Army HQ – 14lb 9oz.Cap Badge won by Royal Signals 26lb 5oz; runners up RRS 23lb 6oz.Open won by Pumpers & Handsane 29lb 10oz; runners up Potch GHOO 28lb 11oz.Best Newcomer Chris Liburd – 13lb 8ozAssociate Fergie – 32lb 8oz.Serving – Gerry Rattray 33lb 1oz.

Pitsford WaterFish 146 (season 6,919) Returns 44(1,386) Rod average 3.3 (5.0)Last week’s hot weather was very influential at Pitsford with fewer anglers wanting to brave the heat which also made fishing hard.During the hot weather season ticket holder Bob Collins opted to fish for the first couple of hours in the morning. This proved very effective with Bob taking 11 fish in three sessions, one of these weighed over 5lb and three others were between 3 and 4lb. Bob fished Sermans and Holly Bush and caught on bloodworm.On Sunday the Mid Northants Fly Fishers held the annual Julian Davies Pairs Match. Twenty four anglers caught 79 fish for a rod average of 3.3. The match was fished to a five fish limit. The top individual was Grant Gibson who had 5 fish for 12lb 1oz. This included a brown trout of 3lb 5oz.The winning pair was Terry Mitchell and John Gamon who had nine fish for 19lb 11oz. Ravensthorpe ReservoirFish 127 (season 8,518) Returns 40 (1,181)Rod average 3.1 (7.2)Ravensthorpe has been fishing well considering the hot weather conditions experienced for most of last week. Small dry flies have been catching well due to the fish feeding on olives and damsels. Bobs Bits, crippled midge, damsel patterns, buzzers and diawl bachs have mostly been the flies of choice.
Boat anglers have had the best sport at the Coton End and the island. Best bank spots have been from Platforms 11 and 12 and by the Coton Car Park.Ravensthorpe is hosting its popular Thursday Evening Boat Club from 6-9pm
