Mark Downes, England Manager and co-manager, Steve Sanders have named their Drennan Team England squad for the forthcoming World Nations Championship who will be heading to the fishing port of Figueira Da Fox in Portugal from 8th – 9th September.
This vastly experienced team will consist of;
– Alan Scotthorne, multi times World Champion
– Will Raison, seasoned, experienced and consistent International and former World and European Champion
– Steve Hemingray, former European Champion
– Sean Ashby, former World Champion and bronze medallist on this venue
– Des Shipp, one of the most consistent anglers in the UK
One change to the team and joining the squad is Matt Godfrey, 3 times Youth World Champion and a member of the European Championship team for three years, who will be adding his international experience to this strong squad.
Mark Downes stated “Portugal will be a difficult venue, a rowing course, but one we won on a few years ago. When we fished it, mullet were the target but that appears to have now changed. A lot of the Portuguese venues are predominately catfish, “Poisson Chat”, the small American version that have established themselves, so we feel they will play a major role in determining the outcome for us. There is also a head of carrasio, barbel and still some mullet.”
Steve Sanders added “This is a great team, we are currently ranked as the best in the world and with the silver and bronze medals we’ve won for the last three years we will be looking to go one better and get that gold. Winning today is harder than it has ever been, but we have the confidence in this squad to do just that.”
