DERBY and District Juniors have joined The Pride of Derby club in a bid to step up a gear in their match fishing and provide greater coaching opportunities.

“The coming together is of mutual interest,” said a Pride of Derby spokesman. “Derby and District Juniors are a formidable junior angling group in the Derby area and those involved have been enjoying great success in the training of young anglers.

“However, due to the pressures of acquiring the necessary finance to run the training sessions, along with having to train coaches and pay for the necessary insurance, they found they were spending much of their time in fund raising events.

“At Pride of Derby we are in a position to finance the group and to let them get on with what they do best – training youngsters to take part and enjoy the great sport of angling.”

Pride of Derby Juniors are holding regular training sessions for any prospective junior angler to take part in. The training sessions are being held on the Trent & Mersey Canal and details will be published on the club’s web site, www.prideofderby.co.uk .

“The juniors have had great success in local and national events in recent years,” added the spokesman. “Obviously any youngster joining the group will have the opportunity to take part in matches, but if he or she wishes be trained in other aspects of the sport, this will be available too.”
