The River Wye at Belmont in Hereford plays host to a busy schedule of matches over the next few months.
First up it’s the Winter League for 12 teams of five, which starts on Sunday, October 3rd with further rounds on October 24th, November 7th, November 21st, December 5th, January 16th, February 6th and February 20th. The man with all the details for this league is Tony Birt who can be contacted on 07854 311684.
There’s a Wye Charity Open on October 10th, the popular three-day Hereford Festival from November 10th to 12th and the Wye Team Champs on November 28th. These events are being organised by Pete Golding, who can be contacted on 07831 641369.
Finally, there are three Belmont opens in January on the 2nd, 9th and 23rd and the man taking the bookings for these is Pete Pembridge, on 01432 270706.
Pete Golding, who recorded 80lb of roach in a match on the stretch a couple of years ago, is excited about the fixtures and told us: “Given good weather conditions I feel that the upcoming winter season will be as prolific as ever on the Belmont section for roach and dace. Currently the out-of-town sections are providing tremendous sport, with barbel and chub dominant, and I predict there will some very big weights on the matches in October, especially the charity match and the Wye Championship. I can’t wait for the matches to get going again!”
