Rumours are rife that another famous carp, known as the ‘The Black Mirror’ – has died.
If confirmed that news comes within a week of the death of the record breaking ‘Two Tone’ which hit the national press.
The distinctive and mugh sought after Black Mirror really came to the fore in 1992 when caught legitimately at 46lb from The Mere near Heathrow Airport when the venue was run as a syndicate. At the time that was less than 6lb under the record.
However, the Mere has since been closed to anglers and been made into a Site of Special Scientific Interest where fishing is banned. Some anglers have been prosecuted for targeting it in more recent years.
Indeed the fish was caught not long ago at over 50lb. Reports suggest that other fish have died in the Mere at the same time.
