A YOUNG angler got more bite than he bargained for when he reeled in a piranha from his local pond. Robert Medwid took his two sons, Michael, 13, and Jordan, 8, to High Park lake in Toronto, Canada after they’d visited the Canadian National Exhibition.
AT about
7pm
, Jordan, who was using a broken fishing rod, felt something hit his line.
“We thought we’d caught some crazy sunfish,” Medwid said. “It kept going round and round in the shallows but eventually it came to the top and my jaw dropped!”
Jordan finally hauled in the feisty fish, a 16.5cm silver piranha. Police said they believed the piranha, which is indigenous to South America, was dumped there after it out grew its fish tank.
