The day got off to a chilly but bright start with 19 anglers turning out for the first of the six series of pairs matches on Dog Lanes’ Willow Pool.
Dave West on Peg14 fed chopped worm and caster to put the top weight of the day on the scales at 11lb 6oz and earn him one section point. Dave’s partner, Paul Roberts on opposite bank peg 34, who despite the carp in his peg managed to find 6lb 12½oz of roach and perch to gain six points and help them to second overall in the match.
Graham Cheney (peg11) and partner Mick Turner (peg31) accrued seven points the same as Dave and Paul but got pushed into third overall by their lower combined weight of 15lb 11½oz.
Simon potter was the section winner on peg 32 with 9lb 10½oz made up of 150 fish caught on Pinkie and Caster mostly at 11m. On the wooded side of the pool behind the island Rich Wills got his head down on pinkie and brought 10lb 9½oz of roach to the scales from peg12. A peg that Rich did not want to draw apparently, maybe this will change his view of the peg as his efforts put the pair into top position.
The rest of the field averaged 7lb and most found that too much feed brought the carp in which had a knock on effect of all but killing the line. Most had success in finding the bonus perch as can be seen from the photographs on www.doglanefishery.co.uk.
The next match at Dog Lane will be on the 21st November and is open to individuals wishing to try the skill at catching silvers. The draw will be at 9am at the Kings Head pub Napton and breakfast can be had from 8am onwards. To book on and for further details contact Pete Palmer 07749 225 880.
