The Environment Agency and the National Federation of Anglers will be giving free angling instruction to children at Langbridge Farm in Newchurch this Saturday (22^nd June).

The Agency, in association with the Newchurch and District Piscatorial Society, wants to encourage youngsters who have never tried freshwater fishing to ‘give it a go’. Coaching is free; bait and fishing tackle will be supplied. Environment Agency officers will be on hand to answer questions about the Agency’s work and give out free ‘goody bags’.

The children will also learn about bank-side health and safety, security issues, caring for the environment and the rod licensing system. Those who have tried angling in the past are welcome to come along and improve their skills.

Andy Thomas of the Environment Agency’s Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fisheries Team said: “Young anglers are the future of the sport and this is a great way for youngsters to get outside in this beautiful weather and learn about fishing. This should be a fun day for all the family, there will be lots to keep everyone interested and they can learn about fishing too.”
