A BLIND cod, saved by a Norwegian fisherman after having been caught in nets and estimated forty times, is clinging to life after surviving a medical operation.
The fisherman sent the cod to a marine park rather than throw it back into the water yet again, but it had to undergo an emergency operation to release gases which had built up inside it.
The director of the Atlantic Sea Park said the cod, which now shares a private pool with a short-sighted halibut known as Big Mama, was also suffering from stress and a loss of appetite.
The celebrity cod, nicknamed ‘Balder’ after the Norse god of peace and joy, was first caught in the fisherman’s nets last March and has been caught almost every week since. It was returned each time because it was too thin to eat.
