The River Nene – now a noted big carp water – has produced its first verified ‘forty’ from a stretch near Peterborough in Cambs.

The fish – a magnificent 41lb 4oz common – fell to the rod of local angler Glen Woolner just ten hours into the new season. It took a boilie from an swim Total-Fishing believe to be in the Fotheringhay area.

The lower river has produced lots of 30lb fish in the last two seasons. Many of the carp in the river are escapees from adjoining stillwater complexes following winter flooding.

Commented river expert Chris Berry: “It’s great news although not a huge surprise. The River Nene holds lots of big carp and it was only a matter of time before someone fishing for them broke the 40lb barrier.”
