The Angling Trust has been presented with a cheque for £635 from building giant Lafarge at the company’s annual conference in Hatfield on 6th January.
Dick Clegg, Angling Trust International Events Director, attended the presentation following Lafarge’s fundraising ‘Challenge Cup’ held last summer to raise vital funds for the 2008 England team for Anglers with Disabilities.
The company is the world leader in cement supplies to the building trade and employs over 71,000 people worldwide. Last summer the UK arm of the company organised their annual charity ‘Challenge Cup’, which saw employees of rival firm Cemex compete against keen anglers from Lafarge in a series of seven matches. The events raised significant funds for both the England team for Anglers with Disabilities and also Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.
Dick Clegg commented, “Lafarge was one of the first organisations to get behind the England team for Anglers with Disabilities and the efforts and enthusiasm of Tony Shaw in particular who organised the programme of events was fantastic to see. The company will be hoping to organise the same events this year and once again play a pivotal role in helping England bring back the medals from the World Championships in Portugal.”
