ENGLAND have taken the World Under 21 Angling Championships at Bridlington, with Ireland taking the bronze and England also taking the individual gold in the shape of Daniel Mogridge.
The Championship plus the Under 16s event which was won by Croatia took place over five days last week and were supported by East Riding of Yorkshire District Council, who provided significant financial support to ensure the event held in England once again was to the highest standard. Mr Paul Roggeman, of ERDC, personally supported the organisers throughout the event.
Mr Richard Caborn MP, Minister for Sport, visited the final match on Friday and was extremely impressed with the sight of 70 young sea anglers competing from North Beach, Bridlington, each in a 20 metre marked and pegged zone clearly identifying each competitor’s name and country.
”Mr Caborn expressed his full support for sea angling, and was particularly keen to see the youth of the country further encouraged to take up the sport,” said a National Federation of Sea Anglers spokesman.
