AN English angler fishing under the guidance of Fishing Adventures Thailand has bagged a potential world record Mekong catfish, would you know.
Paul Carbis took the strange-looking fish, which is pictured in this week’s Angling Times, and weighed 95lb 14oz, from Bungsam Lan lake in Thailand.
The fish was over five feet long and had a girth of over three feet.
However, despite the fact that Paul’s fish beat the old record by over 7lb, he won’t be claiming.
Why not? Because soon afterwards a spoil sport Japanese angler caught one nearly 10lb bigger! The lake is thought to hold Mekong catfish well in excess of 300lb.
