THE Carp Society has strengthened its governing body by recruiting Mark Gregory and RMC boss Ian Welch to the board of directors.
A spokeman said: “Mark brings a high degree of integrity and skill to the society from his wide and varied role as an office in the South Yorkshire Police.
“Mark has also been instrumental in forming a company called Coarse Fishing Services which has resulted from a long history of creating and managing fisheries. The combination of these means the society benefits from a considerable knowledge of practical and legal aspects of fishery management.”
The Society also welcomes back Ian Welch of RMC Angling.
“Ian Welch has been the driving force behind RMC Angling for over a decade and is totally committed to the furtherance of carp fishing in the UK,” continued the spokesman.
“He brings his vast communication skills to the Society and will be adopting a PR and marketing role.”
Ian commented: “I am delighted to be back on board and I look forward to working with the rest of the team to further the aims of the Society in particular and carp angling in general.”
Meanwhile, Midland all rounder Matt Hayes has accepted an invitation on behalf of the Board of Directors to become President of the 10,000 strong Society.
This is a five year term of office for which he will be eligible for re-election as many times as he is willing to act in accordance with The Carp Society’s Articles of Association, whatever they are. The appointment will be ratified by a members vote at the AGM on 1 December 2002.
A spokeman said: “Consideration for this prestigious position was influenced by the need for an individual who reflects the day-to-day fishing opportunities that are available throughout the sport and not just those within carp angling.
“Matt is an accomplished all-round angler who appeals to all ages irrespective of gender. In addition he is pro-active, professional and above all recognised for his business achievements, media profile and personal dedication. Matt will be a great ambassador for the Society and will further our efforts in reaching out to anglers of all persuasions for all the right reasons.”
Carp Society Commercial Director, David Mannall commented: “The appointment of these guys is a huge step forward for the Society. We now have strength in depth to push forward the expansion plans we have, we now have the management skill levels we have been seeking for some time and I’m delighted with these new appointments.”
