AN angler is claiming a new British record with a 1lb 6oz dace he caught from the River Wear at Durham.
The fish came from the town centre stretch and was part of a fine 40lb bag of chub and dace which fell for stick float and breadflake tactics.
Local captor Simon Ashton is awaiting verification of his scales and if they prove accurate, he will put in a claim for 1lb 6oz.
The existing record of 1lb 4oz 4dr is one of the oldest in the books. It was caught from the River Ouse in 1960.
