270 anglers eventually came under starters orders for the final qualifier for Fish ‘O’Mania 2012 at Lindholme Lakes, Epworth, Doncaster on Wednesday 27th June.
Despite the number of anglers taking part this top flight fishery did not fail to deliver another cracking competition. Of the thirty 10 peg sections only 6 were won with less than 20 kilos and 14 were won with over 30 kilos.
Generally there was little to separate the top dozen anglers many of whom had a really quiet spell sometime in the match. However, Browning’s Adam Richards from Billingham in Cleveland fishing on Bonsai peg 73 seemed to get it right for the whole match. Fishing worm over caster long to the island he caught F1’s, ide, tench and skimmers for a brilliant 63 kilos 350 grams.
Runner up was Team England regular Darren Cox. The Garbolino star drew what many had thought to be a no hoper on the Strip pool. Fishing worm and caster shallow Darren caught F1’s, carp to 3kilos and chub and then later some barbel in the margins to take 46 kilos 600 grams to the scales from peg 15. On the opposite bank at peg 10 was Sheffield angler Stephen Forster. Stephen also caught shallow but on pellet and then later on paste on the deck to take a mixture of F1’s and proper carp to 4kilos. His weight of 46 kilos 450 grams secured third spot.
Fourth was Maver Gold/ Bag’em’s Peter Goodwin from Cheddleton who caught F1’s and barbel shallow on maggot to weigh 43 kilos 700 grams from Willows 53. Confirming it was a good day to be on Strip Pool Kerry Kirkwood took fifth place with 37 kilos 300 grams of F1’s and carp to 3kilos fishing meat long on the deck at 14 metres at Peg 1.
All of the sixteen winners from the qualifiers held this year will be competing to win one of the most prestigious titles in angling on Saturday 14th July 2012 at Cudmore Fisheries, Whitmore, North Staffordshire in the Fish ‘O’ Mania grand final.
