Boldings Pools hosted the most recent midweek Fish’O’Mania XXV qualifier in bright, sunny conditions. Although slightly disappointing, the 70 strong field had plenty of space and this meant that the majority of anglers had a cracking days fishing.
None more so than the Preston backed, Somerset bagging machine, Andy Power. Drawing on the favoured Willow pool, peg 22 stuck to Andy’s hand and he certainly made the most of the large carp that dominate Willows. Before the all-in there were a few ghostly shadows mooching around under the surface and Andy made the most of these, mugging good quality carp early. Before long though the fish spooked and a tactical switch to feeding casters shallow kept a few fish coming. Andy then moved into his margins for the last part of his match, feeding decent pots of maggots down his margins and taking some proper lumps late on. At the scales Andy’s picturesque net went 190lb 14ozs, which booked him his space at the final in July.
Also drawing Willow pool was on the morning arrival Andy Christie. Peg 4 was Andy’s home for the day and although on the same pool as Mr power, Mr Christie’s catch was dominated by F1s. Tactics were casters shallow and Andy put in a round 154lb in the five hours.
Rounding out the top three was Maver backed Dave Brown, who fished a busy match on Larch Pool, peg 22. Dave switched between feeding both maggots and pellets in decent quantities, to take carp to seven pounds up in the water. At the scales Dave also broke the ton with 105lb 4ozs.
Our thanks to Ed, Sue and the team at Boldings Pools for a very well received qualifier and to Terry Nutt for organising. Anglers are reminded that opportunities are running out to get into the final and that tickets can be purchased HERE.
