Woodlands View Fishery in the West Midlands held the 14th Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifier on Wednesday 11th June with the anglers a bit apprehensive about how it would fish especially considering the very large field of almost 170.
Although the first half of the match proved very difficult for many, things settled later on producing a typical Woodland View result with as many as five anglers all in with a shout. Arles and Ghost pools were proving to be the front runners.
In the event Andy Power from Wells in Somerset did just enough to clinch it taking a level 147 lbs to the scales from peg 35 on Arles. He caught carp to 8 lbs plus some F1’s shallow on the long pole. 6mm pellet was the main hookbait. Just a couple of decent fish away in second was 2012 Fish ‘O’ Mania Champion Warren Martin fishing Ghost 2. He caught 135 lbs 2 oz of carp to 8 lbs dobbing worm. Third was Wirral angler, David Woodworth, on Barley peg 20. He caught carp to 7 lbs fishing shallow and later on down the edge using meat over pellet feed to weigh in with 126 lbs 4 oz.
2013 Fish ‘O’ Mania Champion Jamie Hughes captured fourth spot with 118 lbs 4 ozs from Arles peg 2. All his fish fell to maggots down the edge with his best going almost 10 lbs. Wales international, Lee Edwards, was fifth with 116 lbs 2 ozs from Ghost 20 and sixth was Dave Roberts who fell just short of the ton with 99 lbs 5 ozs from Arles 8.
With only two more Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifiers left for this year the competitors move to Woodlands Lakes at Thirsk on Saturday 14th June 2014 with another chance to book a ticket to the Fish ‘O’ Mania grand final on 12th July at Cudmore Fisheries, Newcastle Under Lyme.
