The Angling Trust Marine National Team and Competition Group is pleased to announce the teams and squads for the 2009 International Sea Angling programme. The successful anglers have high standards to live up to with the 2008 Shore Championship squads achieving two gold (Senior Men and Junior) and two silver medals (Boat and Youth) in last year’s championships.
Full details of the teams selected to compete in the Sea Angling Liaison Committee of Great Britain and Ireland home internationals (Boat, Shore, Youth and Senior) and the FIPS – M World Championship squads can be found on www.anglingtrust.net/competitions under our new Sea Angling Competitions area.
The 2009 Shore Championships on 10th and 11th July will see three teams travel to Wales including the Junior, Youth and Senior Men’s teams. This year there will be five newcomers to the squads including Michael Dawkins (Lymington, Hants), Oliver Mears (Bridport, Dorset) and reserve Bryony Langley (Deal, Kent) all achieving their first Junior England caps. In the Men’s team, Dave Lane from Weymouth and reserve Paul Molyneaux from Liverpool will both receive their first caps for their country.
The 2009 World Championship teams have also been selected with full details available from www.anglingtrust.net/competitions. Competing team will take part in the following competitions:
• World Big Game Championships in Mexico on 25th October to 1st November
• World Boat Championship in Cote d’Amour in France on 12th and 19th September
• World Shore Championships in Montenegro on 10th and 18th October
• World Club Championships in Germany on 8th and 15th November
• World Casting Championships in Brazil from 25th to 30th September
It is with regret that the FIPS – M World Junior and Youth Shore Championships will not have representation due to a lack of funding to support the cost of taking part. The Angling Trust will be working hard to seek new sponsorship deals for all angling teams in the future.
There will also be squad development days held for Boat, Men’s Shore, Ladies Shore, Junior and Youth squads for those anglers who have been selected for the Boat and Men’s Senior Shore Squads. The National Team Competition Group is currently seeking to develop the youth, junior and ladies sections and therefore applications for these squads will remain open. Anyone wishing to apply should contact the Angling Trust – Marine Office on 01364 644489 or visit the website www.anglingtrust.net where an application pack can be downloaded.
