49 anglers contested in this latest qualifier at the prolific Boddington Reservoir on 17th July 2013 in the fourth qualifier of the Angling Trust & Canal & River Trust Stillwater Qualifiers for 2013. The blistering heat and often totally still conditions were always going to make things difficult.
The huge shoals of sizeable carp for which Boddington has become famous were content to play on, or near the surface, and only occasionally prepared to feed. That said a large number of the competitors got it sorted and put together weights which, although well down on what we know the venue can produce, were very respectable given the conditions. All the top weights fell to the pellet waggler topped up with the odd fish on the bomb or feeder
Top rod on the day was Frank Hayhurst from Nelson in Lancashire. Fishing at peg 87 Frank took 52 kilos 400 grams to the scales. In second spot was Club Skylark’s Eamonn Brennan who was just a couple of fish behind with 48 kilos 660 grams at peg 81. Maurice Williams of Sensas Chiltern Baits was third with 44 kilos 900 grams at end peg 99.
The five section winners going forward to the Grand Final, also at Boddington on 21st September are;
Maurice Woolley Peg 50 12 kilos 720 grams
Brian Ashley Peg 68 36 kilos 840 grams
Aiden Mansfield Peg 72 36 kilos 680 grams
Frank Hayhurst Peg 87 52 kilos 400 grams
