Angling Trust Team England Ladies
The Angling Trust Team England International Management team of Dave Brooks, Joe Roberts and Dick Clegg held a team assessment/trial with the intention of selecting a team to represent England next year in Portugal for the FIPSed Ladies World Coarse Angling Championships.
13 lady anglers were nominated to fish the trials which took place on the Stainforth and Keadby Canal near Thorne on Sunday 6th October 2013. The trial was fished to FIPSed rules using a limited amount of bait and restricted to 11.5 metre pole length.
The anglers were assessed on their fishing ability, preparation and choice of groundbait and equipment in an effort to select a squad of 6 to compete next year in the 21st Ladies World Championships. Some excellent catches of roach, skimmers and perch were recorded with Helen Dagnall recording a top weight of 13 lbs 1 oz in 4 hours.
The new team may not include ex /World Champion Emma Pickering who has decided to take some time off to spend with her family.
Dick Clegg’s intention is to create an academy of angling where the development of younger anglers can be speeded up by both practical and theoretical meetings to ensure continued success at World level. By bringing the selection process forward it does give all the team more time in which to find a sponsor, or to raise the necessary funds to compete.
Angling Trust Team England Veterans
Just after the Ladies trial a similar event took place on 9th October on Nottingham’s River Trent Embankment to help select the Veterans team for next year who will be on the river Tiber in Rome, Italy, and the vets will be trying to regain the championship trophy that they lost this year in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
9 anglers braved the conditions which changed dramatically in less than 24 hours from 20 degrees and sunny to overcast, cold and blowing a gale. Never the less the trial produced roach weights of up to 6 lbs fishing in depths of up to 5 metres which will be similar to the river in Rome.
Once again as the team has no sponsor it will also give members time to raise the funds needed to take part in the 7th FIPSed Veterans World Championships.
