Richard ‘Bedder’ than the rest at Blythe
The fourth qualifier for the AT & CRT Stillwater Championships was held in near perfect conditions at Blythe Waters Fishery. With a light wind and overcast conditions the 18 anglers that had made their way to Solihull expected a decent day’s fishing and they weren’t disappointed.
Top rod on the day was Richard Bedder and although already qualified he managed to amass a huge 45kg 580g from Peg B16. Richard focused most of his attention down the edge, fishing dead maggots over groundbait to take both bream and carp to 5kg.
Finishing a close second and first to qualify was Andrew Wiffen with 40kg 720g from Peg B23. Andrew caught on a mixture of method feeder to the island and pole both at 6m and down the edge. By chopping and changing his hook baits between pellet and maggot, Andy kept a good mixture of carp, bream and chub coming throughout the day.
The top two (unqualified anglers) from each section qualified for final as below;
Section A
Gail Hooper, Peg B8, 17.520kg
Warren Cave, Peg B10, 17.080kg
Section B
Andrew Wiffen, Peg B23, 40.720kg
Simon Harris, Peg B31, 14.320kg
With six more spaces up for grabs in the final the next best six unqualified weights also made their way through. The top 10 to qualify were:
Andrew Wiffen
Gail Hooper
Warren Cave
Simon Harris
Charles Simpson
Mick Bull
Luke White
David Markham
Graham Dashwood
Anthony Brooker
