In a bid to bring the area’s angling clubs closer together, Wayne Sharman at Lane’s Fishing Tackle is organising a new teams of four festival at Meadowlands Fishery.
Two years in the planning, the event is only open to angling clubs in the Coventry region, and the tackle shop is putting up a trophy as prize.
“I just feel that clubs are getting smaller and smaller, and that match angling is always too serious these days and is getting too fragmented. This is a chance to get the clubs together for a day out without money being the main driving force,” said Wayne.
The July 4th match is £60 per team to enter and will be followed by a presentation in the Royal Oak pub near the fishery. Wayne has places for 18 teams and is looking for it to become a popular annual event. He has 10 already booked in and would like to hear from clubs wishing to enter before June 1st.
“It will hopefully be more about the camaradarie of getting like-minded anglers together than anything else – just like match fishing used to be,” added Wayne. “If it takes off, I will look to create an individual event for Coventry anglers along similar lines.”
