THE key thing about Britain Explored is that it is not just a fishing service, we cater for all members of the party including non-anglers.
Whilst the anglers are out testing their skills we will take the non-anglers out shopping or to see local sights and places of interest to them. We also provide other themed tours including golf, shooting and gastronomic tours for groups of up to six people.
Paul King, the owner of Britain Explored is an International fly fisherman and has represented Wales in both the World and European Fly Fishing Championships. He has carefully selected the fisheries for the quality of their environment and fishing but has a wide knowledge of fishing throughout the UK and Ireland and can arrange good fishing just about anywhere.
We can offer several types of exceptional fishing, some of it unique to the UK. Most of our trout fishing is fly fishing but we can arrange spin fishing or bait fishing if preferred.

Chalk Streams
The classic Rivers Test, Itchen, Avon, and Wylye are the home of dry fly fishing and provide classic fishing for brown trout, rainbow trout and grayling.
These rivers are fed by springs originating from rainwater filtered through the chalk hills, have a steady flow, constant temperature and are highly alkaline with plenty of food and big fish. Trout average 1–3lb. Season: May through September.

Atlantic Salmon

The rain-fed rivers of Scotland and Wales are home to the Atlantic Salmon and the double handed fly rod was born here.
There are many rivers to choose from ranging from the famous (and expensive) Spey, Dee, Tay or Tweed to lesser known minor rivers. You can also fish for wild brown trout and sea run browns on many rivers.
Averages vary from river to river but are usually 6lb to 10lb with some over 20lb and the odd much bigger fish. Season: Jan through November but mostly March through October.

Sea Trout (Sewin)
Wales is famous for “Sewin”, which is the Welsh name for the sea run brown trout. These fish are more numerous than salmon and run to nearly 20lb on some rivers like the Towy.
The average weight on the Towy is usually about 4lb and over 10,000 fish run this river in most seasons.
Fishing is usually with a fly at night, this is a magical experience and never to be forgotten. Sea trout fishing can also be provided in Scotland and Ireland and the North or West of England. Season: May through Sept.

Stillwater Trout
We also have excellent lake fishing for brown and rainbow trout and this ranges from stocked fish in English public reservoirs where densities are high and average weights are around 2lb with many fish over 5lb, to the wild waters of Scotland, Ireland and Wales with wild brown trout of typically 10/12”, (you might catch 20 in a day) or the rich Midland lakes of Ireland where the average can be close to 4lb. Season: March through mid-October.
Fishing is also available for many other species in both fresh and salt water and the UK has IGFA World Records in several species.

Price Guide: Britain Explored designs a bespoke package for our guests and as a result it’s not possible to quote prices before we know what our guests want to do. However, an indicative price for an all-in fishing vacation for seven days including all accomodation, meals, transport, guided fishing, driver and other expenses, excepting only travel to and from the UK, a typical package would be around £1,500 per person. This assumes there is top quality fishing for five days, other activities for non anglers and that a good standard of hotel is selected with two sharing a room. But the flexibility allows the package to be based around any level of fishing and accomodation and the base price would be around £1,000 per week all inclusive.
