The rivers Severn, Wye and Trent are set to host a new British Barbel Angling Championships, which will see anglers fish over 24 hours in the summer of 2013 leading to a big final, probably on the Trent.
Five pairs will go through from each heat, with stewards on hand to weigh fish in so they can be returned quickly.
Top Midlands barbel angler Phil Smith told Angling Times: “It’s great that a big event is being planned for the rivers as opposed to the commercials.”
The event is being organised by a new group called Barbel And River Angling Events UK and you can keep up with news on their Facebook page.
