Cameron Hughes has won the Drennan Rive Silverfish Festival with an impressive 112b catch of roach and skimmers over two days.
This is the first year that this prestigious event has been run at the prolific White Acres holiday complex in Cornwall. The 78-strong field included 20 invited anglers from France, the Drennan Team England squad and a host of other top names.
The event was run as a float-only competition with a 13m pole limit and strictly no carp, crucians or F1s counted… although more than a few were hooked in the unseasonably mild conditions!
The top five anglers all posted two section wins but it was Cameron Hughes that stole the show. The former Drennan Team England Under 23 from Derby won Day One with 55lb from Peg 25 on the High Bank of Pollawyn. He then pulled out the adjacent peg 26 on Day Two and proceeded to catch 57lb! Fishing casters up in the water anywhere between 2ft and 5ft deep was the favoured tactics which saw plenty of skimmers to 2lb and roach to 1lb grace his net.
In second place was another former England youth ace, Matt Godfrey, who totalled 86lb 1oz. Third went to Neil Mallinson with 56lb 7oz. Gary Pook was fourth with 47lb 13oz and and former world champion Didier Dellanoy was fifth with 25b 1oz.
Champion Cam took home the £1,000 winner’s cheque plus a shiny new Drennan Rive seatbox. The top nine anglers all received cash prizes while every single one of the 78 competitors also won a share of £7,000 worth of tackle prizes.
