Weston Pools hosted the fourteenth round of FishOMania qualification in conditions fitting of the picturesque lakes, glorious sunshine and just a slight ripple on the water. This put a lot of the fish across the lakes up in the water and many caught on natural baits shallow.

It was Speci and Match Ace, Colin Scott who took the honours on the day, finishing a full 40lb clear of the field on peg 25, Belvedere lake. Colin flew out of the blocks fishing casters up in the water against the lilypads and taking loads of F1s. He followed this up with some chunky carp short on pellets and down the edge. Colin commented ‘I’m over the moon to make the final for the second time’.

The talented young Rob Swan came second on the day from peg 17 on Jacks Lake. Rob caught all-comers on casters shallow, which included Ide and F1s in the first few hours and followed this up with 80lb big carp down his edges for 164lb 10oz.

Rounding out the top three was Chris Wells, who drew Stretton peg 19 and amassed 153lb 14oz in the five hours. This consisted of F1s which he caught shallow on caster and then some proper lumps down the edge on maggot over groundbait.

Our thanks to Richard and the team at Weston Pools for hosting an awesome qualifier, and also to Dave Watkins who hosted the match for the Angling Trust.

Our next qualifier is at Makins Fishery on Wednesday and anglers are reminded to check the new procedures and pay for their pools on the Online Booking Site.
