Freezing cold conditions put paid to any high hopes of mega weights at this latest Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifying round at Barford Lakes on Saturday 14th May 2016. Forecast conditions might have contributed to the 30 anglers who failed to turn-up with over half who did not let the organisers know.
Weights were well down and eight 10 peg sections were won with less than 50 lbs. The winner on the day was Peterborough angler Dale Stones, who fishes under the Stanjay match banner from peg 31 on Willow lake where he fished cat meat short to land carp to 10 lbs in his 91 lbs 14 oz net.
Runner-up Wensum Valley Anglings Simon Elliott fished Match Lake 19 where he fished pellet shallow and worm in the margins to land 13 carp to 13 lbs in his total of 85 lbs 11 oz. Third place went to Saxmundham angler Andrew Dearing who fished corn at 5 metres on Match lake 7 to land carp to 10 lbs in his final tally 73 lbs 15 oz. Fourth place was Ben Smith 69 lbs 12 oz on Pleasure lake 16, and in fifth was Matthew Crowe 68 lbs 5 oz on Pleasure lake 12.
The Angling Trust would like to thank Sarah and her staff at Barford Lakes for their help in running this match.
The next Fish ‘O’ Mania round is at Heronbrook Fishery on Wednesday 18th May.
