High rivers in many parts of the country resulted in numerous matches being cancelled at the weekend. Competitors were therefore pleasantly surprised to find that the River Calder at Mirfield was only carrying about 10” of extra water.
Darren Frost won the qualifier at peg 54 in C Zone where he caught a mixed bag of chub, dace and trout for 20-7-0, using stick float, waggler and bomb tactics with maggots and lobworms.
Second place in the match, with a mixed bag of 19-4-0 on a variety of methods was Tim Peters, a catch that also won B Zone and put him in the big money final.
The third qualifying place and fourth overall in the match went to Ian Hughes who used stick float tactics to win A Zone with a mixed 16-12-0 catch.
