The big match at Larford Lakes at the weekend – the Maver Classic – saw Preston Innovations backed Lee Edwards top a super strong field and take home £2,000 at his first attempt.
Near gale force winds made pole-fishing impossible in some areas, and Welsh international Lee, now a full time angler, opted for a straight lead approach with hair rigged pellet on the hook on the first day on the Specimen Lake, that saw him to a section winning 46.16kg bag of skimmers, bream and carp, a weight bolstered with some big carp caught late down the edge on worm.
Day two saw Lee draw peg 68 on the Match Lake, where he was able to pole-fish his way to a 33.76kg bag of carp, skimmers and F1 hybrids and another section win. Lee was the only angler to score a perfect two section wins. Andy Kinder had a bigger weight but only one section win and finished second.
