with the number of qualifying pegs up on previous years, Matchroom Sport has announced that there will be a second prize of £5,000 at the 2014 Fish ‘O’ Mania grand final.
With the event heavily oversubscribed every year, an additional 200 pegs have been made available at the 16 qualifying events to try and accommodate demand. All of the entry fees will go into the prize fund and the first prize of £30,000 will remain the same. That takes the total prize money at the Fish ‘O’ Mania weekend up to £62,900.
Taking place over the weekend of the 12th and 13th July, the weekend also includes the Fish ‘O’ Mania International pairs match on Sunday 13th July.Fish ‘O’ Mania promoter Barry Hearn commented, “The idea is to try and strike a balance as every year hundreds of anglers are denied a chance to compete due to the sheer popularity of Fish ‘O’ Mania.”“On the one hand we want to give more and more people a chance to participate in the World’s Number One angling competition, and on the other we want anglers who draw a decent peg and fish it well to be in with a shout of reaching the final. Hopefully, we have achieved that.”“Also, by putting the additional entry fees into a second prize it will keep the interest going in the event of a runaway winner and also offer a consolation prize if there is a tight finish.”Online entry at www.anglingtrust.net for Fish ‘O’ Mania XXI is now open and will close at 4.00pm on Tuesday 4th February. Tickets are £25.00 per qualifier venue.
