Five has commissioned IWC Media, part of the RDF Media Group, to produce another series of Extreme Fishing with Robson Green, it was announced today (FRI).
In Extreme Fishing 2, transmitting Monday 2nd March at 9pm , Robson travels from the freezing waters of the north Atlantic to the summer seas of the south Pacific, tracking down some of the wildest, largest and scariest fish in the world – in some of the harshest fishing conditions imaginable.
Each of the eight hour long programmes follows Robson’s amazing journey around the world in search of his next big catch. We see him brave temperatures of -25 degrees in Alaska where he fishes for Northern Pike using the precarious and ancient tradition of ice house fishing. Plus he goes in search of Alaska’s most prized fish the ‘winter’ King Salmon, thought to be the tastiest fish you can eat.
Five’s Controller of Factual Entertainment, Steve Gowans, said: “ In the first series Robson’s sheer passion in pursuit of the big catch helped deliver over 1.3million viewers
an episode. In this new run there’s even more commitment, passion and bravery – Robson really goes for it – this is a real adventure, hosted by a real adventurer.”
In America Robson heads to Cape Cod in search of the mighty Mako Shark, regarded by many as being as dangerous and deadly as a Great White. He also gets involved in a titanic struggle to land a monster Blue Fin Tuna and spends the day as a deck hand on a commercial lobster boat, plus we follow him as he tries his luck in one of the most inhospitable fishing spots in the world – the base of Niagara Falls.
Robson’s ultimate fishing adventure also takes him to Vancouver, where he battles a White Sturgeon, takes on one of British Columbia’s finest anglers, goes fly fishing by helicopter and embarks on his most dangerous angling adventure yet – sable fishing on the open sea, in a force 9 hurricane.
Other stops in Robson’s journey include New Zealand and Australia, where he learns how to fish Maori style, dabbles in a spot of exhausting kite fishing, goes diving for rock lobster and fishes for Hapuku in the Bay of Islands.
Robson Green said: “ If you thought I was outside my comfort zone on the first series ….think again! You could say series two takes fishing to a completely new level – especially when you think your life is about to end”.
Extreme Fishing 2 is an IWC Media production for Five. The executive producer is Helen Nightingale, and the series producer is John Lonsdale.
