For a change, the weather was reasonable for nineteenth Fish’O’Mania Qualifier held at Colemans Cottage. The warm and breezy conditions did not though, galvanise the fish into a feeding frenzy and weights were surprisingly low for this normally prolific venue.
Not that local rod Gavin Bridge (Colemans Bait & Tackle) was worried about any of that after he came out top and qualified for the final with a weight of 147-8-0. Fishing from peg 13 on Stepfield, Gavin started on the feeder, which accounted for around 60lb of his weight, before he switched to fishing maggot on the pole at 4m to take F1s and carp up to 9lb to seal his victory.
Another local rod, Reece Hearn (Colemans Bait & Tackle) didn’t have far to walk to his peg after drawing peg 2 on Pathfield, right in front of the clubhouse. Reece looked favourite to win for most of the match until his swim died in the last hour and he was left just 10lb short of victory when he put 137lb onto the scales. Reece caught the bulk of his F1s and carp catch on pellet and maggot down the edge.
Jay Fensom (Bishop Stortford) took third place with 109lb from peg 31 on Stepfield and Jimmy Brooks was fourth with 100lb from peg 9 on Wood.
The Angling Trust would like to thank Paul and his team at Colemans Cottage for their hospitality and help on the day. Further thanks must go to Andre Grandjean on running another quality qualifier.
