Birmingham angler Richard Griffith has banked the biggest carp caught anywhere in the UK this year in the shape of a 53lb 8oz mirror carp.

The mighty fish sets a new venue record for the Avenue Fishery controlled by RG Fisheries. Richard, who works for Shimano Normark, approached the lake with maggot tactics, spodding out three pints of mixed live and dead maggots and fishing popped up baits over a clear gravel bar 50 yards out.
He hooked the personal best fish at 3pm and it took 60 yards of line off his reel before he was able to bring it under control. Richard also banked fish of 28lb 12oz and 30lb 4oz.
