Organiser Colin Harvey is promising to extend the 2011 Upton Festival after a sell-out this year
The two-day River Severn event was fished over four sections, one on Hanley Road, another spread throughout the town and two sections in the Ham. It’s an interesting stretch of the big river, with big bream tightly shoaled in the town, roach spread throughout the Ham section, and roach and skimmers at Hanley road along with some very big barbel.
The river was rising and coloured on the Saturday, which saw Dave Huggins fish the feeder off peg four by the Swan Hotel in the town for a match-winning 18-2-0 – four bream to over 7lb.
By Sunday the river had settled a little but still carried some nice colour and conditions were far better.
Paul Field made good use of the fancied peg 4 in the town taking eight bream and two skimmers, for a superb weight of 56-6-0 – one of the best silver fish match weights from the area for ages. The festival was won by Dave Huggins. He tied on three points with John Malony, but beat him on total weight 25-2-0 to 11-14-0.
