Whittle books his RiverFest grand final place
Match Report
Sunday 27th July 2014 – River Trent
(60 Fished)
The tidal Trent has been fishing well this year but with the long spell of dry weather the skimmers and bream that usually make up the framing weights have been somewhat elusive.
This opens the match up to a number of pegs capable of producing, and such was the case for the winner on the day Hadrian Whittle from fancied barbel peg 32 at Laughterton.
Hadrian was struggling with an hour to go as his caster hookbait was being intercepted by small fish but at 2.50pm he had his first barbel and then three followed in succession. Hadrian ended the match with five barbel for 23 lbs 11 oz which sees him take part in the prestigious final on his home venue the River Wye.
The second qualifying place went to Steve Lowther from peg 2 at North Clifton. Steve will be enjoying his second trip to the RiverFest final as he also qualified from the tidal Trent last year. He ended the day with 12 lbs 10 oz of skimmers to 1 lb on the groundbait feeder with worm and caster.
The final qualifying place went to local legend Roger Wakenshaw from peg 18 at South Clifton. Roger had a 6 lb bream on the feeder after three hours of the match and added some small fish on the pole to end the day with 8 lb 9 oz and a golden ticket through to the RiverFest final.
