It’s been a big week for the trout fisheries in the area with Packington crowning its re-opening of Cock’s Close on Saturday with a massive rainbow trout going 18lb 14oz.
The fish (pictured) was taken by Coventry angler Trevor Davies, who was fishing from a boat and he took it on a Gold Headed Damsel fished on an intermediate line. He ended taking four fish on the day while his boat partner, Alec Twaites also from Coventry used similar tactics to tempt a five-fish limit with all of his fish between 3lb up to 5lb 4oz. In a week that produced 137 fish for an excellent rod average of 4.28 Mark Sturgess of Nuneaton fished the bank and he took a five-fish limit for 15lb and returned another six fish, which all fell to lures on an intermediate line.
At Ravensthorope it’s been a mixed week with some anglers taking nice bags and others finding sport more challenging.
The wardens are up to speed on the most up to date areas and methods to use. The best fish of the week was a 5lb 1oz silver rainbow taken on a dry sedge pattern by Phil Slater of Coventry.
The bank is proving reliable with nearly all visitors catching. Gold head damsels, daddies, GRHE and buzzer are all taking fish from Platforms 2, 3, 6, 11 and 12.
pike anglers are reminded that the water opens up to pike angling from October 18th to November 21st, with lures and sea fish deadbaits over 18cm permitted.
