A common skate that would have set a new Irish record has been boated and released off Donegal Bay.

Billy Wallace was fishing aboard the charter boat Kiwi Girl when the big fish – which weighed in at 225lb – took his bait.

The skate was measured at 89in long with a 72in wingspan and would have beaten the current best mark by 4lb.
