Leicester rod Joe Oakes once again asserted his dominance on proceedings, using his favoured hemp method to put 10-2-0 of roach on the scales from unfancied peg 61. The Middy backed ace fished the long pole down the middle of the river, in a catch that included fish to 10oz.
Second on the day was local rod, Gary Seadon. Drawn on peg 26, Gary pinned his faith in a maggot attack, fishing just six metres from the bank. Several good perch came to his net, for a 9-12-0 total.
Perch also formed the basis of Kevin Ellaby’s third placed catch from peg 24. Like Gary, Kevin took some chunky perch on short pole, but also managed a good run of fish on maggot feeder to finish just six ounces short of top spot.
