John Myatt (Team Marukyu) won the coveted title of Angling Trust Individual National Champion on Saturday 10th September 2011 at Woodlands View Fishery, Droitwich.
John was pleased to draw peg 4 on High Pool next to the café, but cups of tea were the last thing on his mind as he caught carp up to 8lb on long pole and pellet from the off. A switch to fishing double corn down the edge saw him double his weight in the latter stages and he finished with 41.08kg. Front Deans peg 7 was not quite good enough to produce the title for Peter William Plant (Maver Midland), though he saw plenty of action fishing caster up in the water at 12 metres catching F1’s and carp to 4lb for a final weight of 37.88kg. Pole Fishing Magazine Editor, Jon Arthur took third place with 37.16kg from High Pool peg 12 fishing pellet up in the water at 5 metres though he was to rue the loss of a 1kg carp which missed the net and would have secured him second place.
Anglers who had travelled far and wide to fish the Angling Trusts blue ribbon Individual Championships had to contend with blustery conditions on Front and Back Deans and High Pool on the day. Back Deans was the favoured draw for most but its pre draw odds for producing the winner did not transpire as High Pool produced 2 of the top 3 weights with Front Deans taking the other.
Unfortunately there was a disappointing turnout for this normally well supported match which may have been because of a clash with a series of county based semi-finals, but everyone who took part enjoyed the event. The Angling Trust would like to thank Mike and Denise Mason and their staff at Woodland View for all their help and support on the day.
