With a little colour and pace in the river, most of the competitors in the latest qualifier on the Bristol Avon went down the route of a feeder and pole approach. Match organiser Kevin Dicks went in a completely different direction though and ran out a convincing winner at peg 50 with a 30-6-0 catch.
After introducing a couple of decent balls of groundbait at the start, Kevin kicked off on a bolo rig, loose feeding with casters and topping up with odd balls of groundbait. A run of perch followed. A switch to big waggler tactics at full depth in 12ft of water brought him five good bream plus a few more perch. A sixth bream was added on the feeder. Kevin fed the swim with three pints of loose casters to keep the fish feeding.
Chris Parr booked his place in the November final at peg 43 where he landed two big bream on the feeder and some perch on the pole for 12-8-0.
The bottom zone was won by Ian Sutherland with 13-7-0 of bream and perch from peg 138.
